3rd - 7th: Welsh National Opera - performing four different operas in Plymouth\\\'s Theatre Royal

7th: Dartmoor Firkin Challenge - Starting from the Village Green in Meavy, Dartmoor, teams of two take on the challenge to carry a empty Dartmoor Brewery Firkin (9 gal) around a course taking in Burrator reservoir and visiting Sheepstor before finishing back at the Royal Oak. This will be a great event for spectators and entrants alike, there will be cream tea and a BBQ.

3rd & 4th: Tavistock Garden Festival Event - Grow it - Eat it - Enjoy it! in The Town Hall and Pannier Market. Whether you are a green fingered enthusiast or a budding beginner there will be something for everyone to enjoy at Tavistock Garden Festival.
3rd 2013: Eddie Izzard - bringing his world tour to The Eden Sessions NEXT YEAR 2013. Book tickets now though if you\'d like to see him.
4th: Woodovis Park Golden Jubilee Fete & Party - kicking off with the Stannary Brass Band. A fun filled afternoon of music, games, fancy dress, competitions and a big BBQ!

15th - 17th: The Contemporary Craft Fair - high quality original works in a lovely location with a relaxed atmosphere. Comparable to \'Origin\' in London.
16th: Meavy Oak Fair - on the Village Green outside The Royal Oak Inn. The Fair opens at 2 pm with an exhibition of Maypole Dancing by the pupils of Meavy Primary School.
16th - 24th: Polperro Festival
18th - 26th: Round Britain Power Boat Race Starting and finishing in Torbay. 2012 DATES TBA
18 - 19th: Manaton Midsummer Festival A wide ranging programme is in place from a photographic competition to guided walks; inter-pub cricket to treasure hunts; maypole dancing to a pet\'s church service.

8th - 22nd: St Ives September Festival - a festival of music and the arts. Acts include Big Chris Barber Band, Barbara Dickson, Seth Lakeman and Joey the Lips.
9th: Tavistock Last Night of the Proms There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of the Last Night of the Proms in Tavistock. A chance for you to wave your flags, laugh, cry, sing your heart out, whistle, clap, stamp your feet and let your hair down. Come wave a Union Jack or ever wear one. Be eccentric, be British! Held in The Town Hall in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. 2012 DATES TBA
11th: Widecombe Fair This is held each year on the second Tuesday in September in the lovely moor town village of Widecombe in the Moor. The fair was the inspiration for the well-know folksong, with Uncle Tom Cobley and All! The fair includes pony shows, gymkhana, competitions, sheep and cattle shows with numerous sideshows, races and refreshments, and plenty of great characters if you like to ‘people watch’!

15th & 16th: ShelterBox Dartmoor Challenge Teams of four will navigate a 30 mile course over two days, carrying a ShelterBox and all the kit you\'ll need to survive a night out on the moors.

October
6th & 7th: Boscastle Festival of Food, Arts and Crafts
10th: Tavistock Goose Fair Held on the second Wednesday in October, every year since the 12th Century! Farmers brought their geese for sale, and drove them through the streets to the market. Although this practice has virtually stopped, it is still possible to try a goose lunch at the various restaurants and cafes in town on that day. The fair attracts market traders and showmen from all over the country. Stalls and side shows are set up in the centre of the town, and the adjacent roads are filled with over 200 traders. People from all over the West Country come for the fair, and old and young alike enjoy the atmosphere, especially in the evening when the fairground music plays out over the sounds of squeals of laughter!
