South West Tourism Excellence Awards 2009-2010

Woodovis Park (www.woodovis.com) in Tavistock, Devon, has been awarded Silver in the South West Tourism for Excellence Awards 2009/10 'Holiday Park of the Year' category, it was announced last night (23 November). The award was presented to Woodovis Park owners, John and Dorothy Lewis at a ceremony at Saunton Sands Hotel in Devon.   Woodovis Park was pipped to the post for the Gold award but beat off over 300 parks from across Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall to take Silver.  The hotly contested awards celebrate the best in the South West tourism industry with the aim of promoting and rewarding the leading businesses and individuals.

Woodovis Park was named in the shortlist for the title of ‘Holiday Park of the Year’ in October but had to wait until the final awards ceremony to discover whether they had been awarded Gold or Silver.  Situated on the edge of Dartmoor in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a designated World Heritage Site, 5 Star Woodovis Park is a small, independently run holiday park offering levels of service and facilities usually associated with much larger sites.

Accepting the award, which was presented by Gill Williams, Travel Editor of the Sunday Mirror, John Lewis said: “We are absolutely thrilled to achieve Silver, especially considering the competition we faced.  This award is recognition of the hard work and dedication of our staff and shows what can be achieved by a small team.”

In order to achieve the award, Woodovis Park had to demonstrate outstanding levels of customer service, exemplary facilities as well as commitment to sustainable tourism.
